review
great great choruses, weird lyrics, psychedelic rock – that is this album
going back a bit though and since i always love talking about how i found the albums i listen to, i stumbled into this album while listening to music on soma.fm
spotify butchered their discovery system, so i’ve been trying to find new ways to listen to new music
that is how i found soma.fm, an online radio, and went through the most requested music of the year (in their indie rock station) which turned out to be a temples album – from there, i just listened to the latest one which is liquid air which came out this past april
back to the album though, it really has some bops and if there is one thing that temples does well in this album is their choruses
there are many catchy choruses all over the album, and i found myself singing the choruses of songs like meet your maker, cicada, slow days, fading actor, and gamma rays ever since i listened to them
there is a lot of energy all throughout with really sick guitar and keyboard work
the entire run of liquid air, gamma rays, exotico, sultry air which is just a transitional song, cicada, oval stones, and slow days was really fucking good
all these songs are what i think this album did really well which is have nice layering, put you in the setting of being in a solitude island just relaxing, and just projecting this soothing feeling while somehow still being high energy
after these songs though, the latter part of the album was a bit weaker but it is not like these songs were bad – they just were not as interesting to me aside from meet your maker which is one of my favorite songs
i feel that the length definitely played a part in me feeling that since it is a rather long album by today’s standards (58 minutes 50 seconds)
a large majority of the songs definitely had bright sports though, it just felt as if that initial part was special
another issue i had was that i typically read the lyrics as i go through these songs, and i just was not a fan of the lyrics for basically the entire album
you could just chalk it up to the genre and say the focus is on the music itself and that’s valid but i still think the lyrics count for something (they could also just be going over my head)
overall though, it was a really good album and its definitely grown on me as i listen to it more and more
its catchy, atmospheric, and fun
