review
i am not sure if spotify has ruined discoverability for other people or if its just my profile thats fucked but i had been in a big music rut for a while there
the recommended albums tab somehow is gone and they keep forcing the tik tok style music recommendations down my throat
so i was pretty excited when i by some sort of miracle broke free of having the same 5 artists recommended to me over and over and ran into sedona’s rearview angel
this short poppy synthy and dreamy album was a breathe of fresh air
as with most pop albums, the instrumentals and feeling it creates are its strong suits
while the content of the songs were not anything to take note of, it was not by any means offensive and didn’t detract from the album – it just was not anything to write home about
like i previously mentioned, the shine of this album really does come from the vocal performances, the layering of the songs, and the instrumentals
songs like paper moon, best in show, and far away are just so nostalgic inducing and groovy – you can’t not enjoy it
the interlude (i guess id call it an interlute) no reply from hollywood is also a nice tie in between my two favorite songs on this album and i love it – the slow heavenly feeling fits perfectly
the weakest part to me would be the last two songs – both leaving the chapel and soft machine felt a bit too slow for me and a bit bloated which is weird since this is just a 26 minute album
they feel as if they are trying to extend the same sound as no reply from hollywood but it just falls a bit flat for me
i wouldnt even consider these songs bad to be honest they just overstay their welcome and thats a feeling the other 5 tracks didnt give me – if these songs were a minute shorter or maybe some of the repetition was removed or altered i would completely change my mind
all in all, it is a nice album that i can see myself going back to and listening to while getting some work done or just in a place where i need some feel good poppy music
