review

an important part of music is just how subjective and up to each person and their experiences it is

something can be ‘objectively’ good but it just might not click with you

there’s also the rare circumstance in which an album meshes perfectly with the emotions you are feeling at the time and it just creates this warm feeling of attachment with it

this was one of those albums for me

i was going through a sort of rough patch while simultaneously trying to find an album to write about when i stumbled into this album on rym and it was somehow my emotional state at the time put into song

the messaging might not have applied to me but the feelings it evoked matched it perfectly

the ability of this album to create that connection highlighted what i like the most about it which is how sincere and from the heart it feels

a large part of these songs have a rather simple structure, but it pairs well with the complex, at times melancholic, at times grand instrumentals

it makes you feel as if you’re with the artist as they dive into their emotions – the complexness comes from the background and really, the ’emotion’ of the track

an example would be one of my favorite songs from the album, we don’t need them

it’s just two short verses and a repeating chorus, but the instrumentals add so much emotion to the song

it has this feeling of hope and independence, and it amplifies the message of the song

the instrumentation throughout the entire album really adds so much to it

whether it be the violin, the cello, the choir, the drums, the triangle, or the horns

it utilizes all of that effectively and uses it to express the feelings of each song very effectively

the album epitomizes the fact that a song is not just the lyrics, not just the structure, and not just the message

it is a mixture of everything to paint a picture that resonates with your listeners

that is not to say that bill is not a good singer which he is – i genuinely love his voice and its performance in this album

this is just a case where the sum is greater than the parts

favorite album of the year so far 5/5
