this album was a hell of a mixed bag
i am not sure if it was the genre thing and i am just missing something but sonically this album was definitely extremely appealing
groovy, happy, a lot of layers, nice vocals –
it was just the lyrics which made me question things way more than i would have liked
it felt as if at certain points i had no idea what any of the songs were talking about
an example being the title track itself, we are the 21st century ambassadors of peace and magic,
‘see the big orange slug in the purple grass
well, if you ain’t ready for it to pass
if you’re really really really really not ready to pass
well, the twenty-first century’s gonna kick your ass, boy’
i have no idea what that means
if you think its just missing context, feel free to read the rest of the lyrics and fill me in but the rest did not help me at all
the only song which i understood from a story point of view and maybe this says more about me (maybe i am dumb) than the album itself was shuggie which i took as a song about a guy trying to get another guy to just accept himself and let go of everything and just enjoy the love they have for each other
aside from that though like i said, the songs were just plain fun and had depth instrumentally
if its just happy music that gets you in a happy mood and you want to just have in the background then this is it
songs that just ooze positivity, self love, acceptance, and all of that
in the darkness, no destruction, shuggie, and oh no were my personal favorites and they fill that niche quite nicely
other songs such as on blue mountain and oh yeah i just could not get into as much
most of the songs definitely had highlights and there was something to pick out and say hey, that part was good
it just at times felt too shallow for me to fully enjoy
it was an interesting listen for sure and there is definitely a time and place for this type of music
i guess it might just not be for me
