review

i first heard this album on the road

i was in the backseat kind of dozing out going through albums on my spotify when i stumbled upon this album

you hear the first song and it just immediately fills you with this feeling of warmth and it is an almost religious like experience

and thats the overall feeling that i got from this album – it filled me with warmth and joy and it felt as if i was attending some religious sermon

the harmonies and use of repetition alongside the lush production just comes together so nicely

pair that with songs such as drum which is about just going for it and knowing who you are and geronimo in which he talks about at the end of the day nothing really matters

this world is eternal and you are smaller than just a blip on human history which is just a blip on the history of the universe and whatever you treasure whether its your legacy or any relationships with your family that does not really matter, as long as you are enjoying your time here – that is what is important

there is also different languages such as yoruba and shona sprinkled in there and i find that having no possibility of knowing what is being said gives this feeling of mystique and lets you simply appreciate how the voice sounds rather than think about what it means

that leads me to ululation which consists of everything i have spoken about previously such as repetition, lush production, a language i do not know, and it combines into this relaxing and powerful song

the yelling, singing, and spoken word singing alongside the keys and guitar just exude energy

with that being said, i did find the production to be a bit too jarring such as in certain parts of shoot me down and be your lady

that alongside certain lyrics not being the most solid at times did lead to certain songs feeling a bit empty and relying a bit too much on the atmosphere

overall, i really enjoyed this album and i definitely see myself going back to songs such as holy moly and drum

the feeling you get from this album is unique and it does its job extremely well

4/5 great album
